About the Role

The Product Engineering team at Afresh is responsible for building and maintaining the suite of products that our customers use every day. This includes solutions for individual store managers ordering groceries, corporate supervisors viewing store performance, and everything in between. Grocers rely on these solutions within Afresh’s Fresh Operating System to improve the accuracy and efficiency of their workflows, all contributing to our goal of reducing food waste. You will play a crucial role in building and optimizing the data infrastructure, data products and APIs that power these solutions. Our team and products are growing rapidly, providing excellent opportunities to learn and contribute to impactful projects. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to complex cross-functional projects focused on data pipelines and application performance.
  • Collaborating with Mobile, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Analytics, Product Management, and Customer Support to ensure a high-quality customer experience, particularly around data accuracy and availability.
  • Building and maintaining our data pipelines with a focus on data retrieval and efficiency.
  • Contributing to the optimization of our APIs, data architecture, and infrastructure to support our growing customer base.
  • Contributing to and utilizing our analytics and monitoring/observability tools to understand system behavior and identify areas for optimization.
  • Collaborating with other engineering teams to implement improvements in process, practice, and engineering culture centered around strong data foundations.

Skills and Experience

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years experience with data and backend experience
  • Experience contributing to complex projects as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience in shipping high-quality code
  • Solid understanding of API development principles and good API design, with a focus on data efficiency.
  • Collaborative attitude and a willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Problem-solving skills with an interest in tackling challenging data-related issues.
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Technologies: Familiarity with Python, SQL, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and TypeScript preferred, with a strong interest in developing expertise in these areas, particularly around data manipulation and optimization. Experience with dbt is a plus.
