Who we are
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Staff+ Engineer to lead our newly created FinOps team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with expertise in financial operations, cloud infrastructure, and team leadership. This role is pivotal in optimizing our cloud costs, fostering cost-awareness across teams, and driving financial efficiency across the organization.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategies to make costs visible for a variety of technologies, use cases, and audiences
  • Cost Transparency: Enable teams to understand their costs, empowering them to make informed technical decisions
  • Cost Forecasting: Work with Finance to create and refine models for forecasting costs, ensuring accurate budgeting and planning
  • Reporting: Provide regular cost reports to cross-functional stakeholders, highlighting trends, insights, and recommendations
  • Education and Training: Educate teams on cost measurement and optimization best practices and foster a culture of cost-awareness
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams to influence architecture and designs to be cost-aware and efficient
  • Cost Efficiency: Prioritize high value savings opportunities

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in FinOps or cloud cost management, cloud infrastructure management, or related roles
  • Proficiency in the following technologies: AWS, Snowflake, Datadog, OpenAI, Vantage, Terraform, Spacelift
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment

What we use

  • Our infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKS
  • Infrastructure tooling includes Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and Helm
  • Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Kinesis, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS
  • Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright

  • 8,000 brands powered by Attentive sent over 2.2 billion text messages over Cyber Week 2023 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday) representing a growth of 31% from 2022
  • We sent 32 billion SMS messages in 2023, up 32% YoY. That’s an average of 87 million per day
  • Our production cluster contains over 18,000 containers which serve 200+ services
  • Our streaming services process over 80 billion events per month

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $156,000-$245,000 annually + equity + benefits
