Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Ammonia refrigeration and other freon based cooling systems including, but not limited to operation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Maintain and operate single, two stage, cascade ammonia systems and subsystems
  • Monitor and identify abnormal operating pressures, temperatures, and conditions within the refrigeration system, adjust, repairs and/or schedule service as required
  • Thoroughly understanding and able to handle refrigeration system components, including vacuum pumps, chillers, evaporators, condensers, compressors, controls, and valves etc.
  • Perform and delegate to daily, weekly, monthly, annually inspections, and preventative maintenance on the refrigeration equipment and other cooler machinery on and off-site as needed
  • Perform other maintenance duties such as plumbing, replacing valves, installing fixtures, detecting, and repairing leaks as needed
  • Handle hazardous materials as directed and follow guidance of OSHA and EPA
  • Monitor and record all system readings to document operation of the equipment and the system and provide reports and troubleshooting
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns of the refrigeration systems
  • Procure quotations and bids for the order of work scopes, repairs, parts, and construction projects as needed
  • Ensure continuous training and competency of refrigeration updates and standards
  • Train personnel for routine check and system following the SOP
  • Thoroughly understand and can act upon based on EAP and technical guidance during emergency and system malfunction situations
  • Handle unscheduled and emergency shut down of equipment
  • Ensure all refrigeration equipment is functioning in a safe and optimal manner
  • Ensures continuous operation of all the facility utility systems and supports preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assists in the record-keeping and training requirements for all components of the Ammonia refrigeration system in compliance with State and federal guidelines.
  • Must perform duties as assigned by the facility Manager.

Qualifications

Must posses a Gold Seal Operating Engineer’s license issued by the state of New Jersey

  • Minimum of 5 or more year of Ammonia and freon based refrigeration experience
  • At least 4 years of active experience with cooling processes, ammonia refrigeration, and other freon based facilities within a produce and food processing and storage facility is a plus
  • Experience with screw and reciprocating compressors, recirculation pumps, HVAC units, boilers, air compressors, and associated control systems
  • Work experience in ammonia system pump-downs and repairs
  • Knowledge of chemical testing for cooling towers and ammonia system preferred
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to understand refrigeration blueprints, P&ID, and cut sheets
  • Hazmat Responder Certification preferred
  • Trained and experienced in lock-out, tag-out, and safe work practices
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies if needed 24/17 including after hours and weekends.
  • Best-practice and professional knowledge of industrial maintenance and standards
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be detailed-oriented, cost-conscious, and deadline sensitive

Physical requirements

  • Able to climb stairs and ladders and fall-protection trained
  • Able to work at variable heights
  • Able to lift, push, and pull 50 lbs. in weight

Environmental conditions

  • Roof height and outdoors; cold, wet, and cold storage temperatures

Compensation Range

  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $100,000 - $120,000
  • This role may be eligible to discretionary bonus, incentives and benefits
  • Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location
